Highlights on Microbiology of Chlamydiae
Chlamydiae are non-motile, and have no flagellae. Please note that the figure in the video does not belong to Chlamydiae, and was only for illustration purposes.
Gram stain has no particular utility in diagnosis of Chlamydiae. However, they are Gram negative.
The stain of choice to diagnose Chlamydiae is Giemsa stain, which is capable of staining the reticulate body inside the cells.
Chlamydiae can not grow on regular agar, as they need cells to grow. They grow on McCoy, or HeLa cell line cultures.
